Dangsheng Su was Professor at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics. Between 2009 and 2016 he was a Professor at the Institute of Metal Research and Head of the Catalysis and Materials Division at the Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science.

After receiving his Ph.D. degree in Physics (1991) from the Technical University of Vienna, he performed postdoctoral research in the department of Electron Microscopy at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max-Planck Society and at the Hahn-Meitner-Institut GmbH in Berlin.
After one year as Research Assistant in the Department of Physics at the Humboldt University of Berlin, he returned to the Fritz-Haber Institute of the Max-Planck Society, this time as a Research Group Leader in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, where he became Head of the Laboratory of Electron Microscopy. His research interests include the design of functional nanomaterials with energy applications and the investigation of metal-free and carbon catalysts.
Dangsheng Su has published about 600 peer-reviewed papers, several book chapters, and edited several special issues in international journals.
